With all eyes glued to the Royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William today the 29th of April, it is no doubt this global wedding celebration will start wedding trends and have future brides and grooms adapting royal inspiration for their own nuptials.
One of the most talked about royal wedding details of the day is that Kate Middleton, the bride, was not the only person wearing white or ivory on this, her wedding day. Catherine Middleton’s sister, Pippa, who served as Kate’s Maid of Honor, also wore a long,cowl-neck gown cut from the same ivory satin material as the bride, resulting in twitter abuzzing about how beautiful she looked and even claims she stole the royal wedding ‘show’.
For a wedding so rooted in tradition, is it odd that Buckingham Palace would be such a ground-breaker in bucking the trend, and in most cases taboo, that only the bride should wear white on her wedding day? Maybe, maybe knot.
Ironically, according to Wikipedia, “Philippa of England was actually the first documented princess in history to wear a white wedding gown during a royal wedding ceremony.” and “White did not become a popular option until 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg.”
The reason it has been considered bad taste to wear white or ivory to a wedding has been that you do not want to take away any attention from the bride. Clearly, Kate’s sister took some attention her way, but at the end of the day Kate, Duchess of Cambridge held her own.
